Domestic apps returned to form in 2019, having wrested the pole position in the Indian market back from Chinese apps. Whereas 2018 marked the dramatic rise in India of Chinese apps, the momentum this year has shifted back in favor of local players such as Indian payment apps, for instance. According to AppsFlyer data, Indian apps as a whole recaptured their original standing as the largest group in the top 200 apps in India (by install volume), with a 41% share in 2019—up from 38% in 2018. Domestic apps expanded on their already dominant position in the leading Shopping category, widely considered as India’s largest and most popular apps sector.
